Dahlia is an ode to the everyday woman — to her quiet power, her softness, her chaos, her calm.

About the Brand

What is the name of your brand and what does it stand for?

We believe that luxury isn't reserved for grand occasions. It lives in the small moments — the morning coffee, the school run, the work call, the spontaneous dinner — and women deserve to feel beautiful and celebrated in all of them.

At Dahlia, we create intelligently designed clothing that's as functional as it is elegant. Every pleat, pocket, and silhouette is crafted to honour your rhythm — so you can move freely, feel comfortable, and look effortlessly put-together without ever trying too hard.

We are deeply rooted in conscious luxury — our pieces are made in small batches using natural, breathable fabrics, and are sewn with time-honoured techniques by skilled Indian artisans. Because we care about what touches your skin, and the hands that make it.

Above all, Dahlia is a mindset. It's a gentle rebellion against perfectionism. A space where women can reclaim joy, ease, and self-worth — not as a reward, but as a right.

We don't follow trends. We follow women.

When was it founded, and what inspired its beginning?

DAHLIA was founded on 20th Feb 2023.

Dahlia didn't begin as a brand — it began as a feeling. A quiet ache. A longing.

We saw women everywhere moving through life wearing what they were supposed to wear — sharp silhouettes for boardrooms, bright silks for celebrations, curated looks that signaled perfection. But inside, something felt missing. The clothes didn't reflect the layered, beautiful, chaotic rhythm of being a woman.

That's when we began to listen — not just to trends, but to the truth of how women want to feel. We found ourselves drawn to garments that offered more than aesthetics. Clothes that let you breathe. Fabrics that whispered. Details like pockets that held not just essentials, but purpose.

And slowly, the idea took root — what if we created a space where women didn't have to dress up for the world, but could show up fully for themselves?

Dahlia was born from that question.

A brand that weaves handwoven, natural fabrics with thoughtful design. Where softness becomes strength. Where comfort meets quiet luxury. And where every piece is a gentle reminder that you — in all your everyday moments — are worth celebrating.

What makes your brand uniquely Indian?

Dahlia is rooted in the quiet elegance of Indian craftsmanship. Every piece begins with handwoven fabrics sourced from Indian weavers — natural, breathable textiles that carry the legacy of our looms and the rhythm of slow, mindful creation.

Our silhouettes may feel contemporary, but they're shaped by traditions that honour softness, grace, and versatility — the kind Indian women have embraced for centuries. We celebrate functional beauty, like pockets hidden in flowing fabrics, much like the unspoken strengths carried by Indian women every day.

Dahlia doesn't shout its Indianness — it wears it gently. In textures that feel like home. In colours inspired by Indian landscapes. In the ease of everyday rituals — dressing not to impress, but to express.

What makes Dahlia truly Indian is its ability to hold contradiction — modern yet rooted, luxurious yet lived-in, refined yet deeply personal. Just like the women we create for.

About the Founders

Who is the founder? Please share a short personal introduction.

Founder - Ruchika

After a decade in the media industry, Dahlia's founder returned to her first love — fashion. While studying at Pearl Academy, Delhi, she discovered her passion for handwoven Indian textiles and the stories of the artisans behind them. Inspired by her travels across India and a design exchange in Milan, she set out to build a brand rooted in heritage, sustainability, and purpose.

Dahlia was born from the belief that clothes should do more than just look good — they should celebrate the women who wear them. With timeless designs, consciously sourced fabrics, and thoughtful details like deep, functional pockets, every piece is made to honour individuality, comfort, and strength — season after season.

What's your background?

Graduation from Delhi University

PG in Fashion Design from Pearl Academy

What inspired you to start this brand?

What inspired the birth of Dahlia wasn't just a love for design — it was a deep, personal longing to feel seen in one's own skin. Having spent years in the media industry, I had always dressed the part, but never quite felt reflected in the clothes I wore. My design journey at Pearl Academy — and a life-changing encounter with weavers in Varanasi — brought clarity. I discovered the soulful beauty of handwoven textiles, the quiet strength in intentional details, and the joy of feeling truly at home in what you wear. Dahlia emerged from this discovery — as a heartfelt offering to women like me: women who crave softness without compromise, beauty without pretence, and clothes that honour their everyday rhythm.

Do you have any personal connection to the craft, textile, or region your brand represents?

Yes — the connection is deeply personal and rooted in my design journey. While pursuing my post-graduate studies in Fashion Design at Pearl Academy, I visited Varanasi as part of a classroom project. That trip changed everything. Meeting the weavers, witnessing the rhythm of the handlooms, and feeling the energy that lived in every thread — it awakened something profound in me. It wasn't just fabric; it was legacy, love, and labour woven into cloth. That moment laid the foundation for Dahlia's ethos: to honour and celebrate India's handwoven heritage while designing with purpose. Today, I source fabrics like Malkha, Ikat, Chanderi and Khesh directly from weavers in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal — a commitment that is both emotional and ethical. Dahlia isn't just inspired by India's textile traditions; it exists because of them.

The Team & People Behind the Brand

Can you tell us about the team behind your label — design, production, marketing, etc.?

At Dahlia, we are a small but deeply committed team of creators, thinkers, and doers — each person driven by a shared love for thoughtful design and purpose-led fashion.

Our founder leads the design direction, drawing from her formal training in fashion and her intuitive understanding of what modern Indian women truly need in their wardrobes. She also works closely with skilled weavers from across India — especially in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal — personally curating fabrics that reflect our ethos of slow, soulful fashion.

Our production team specializes in crafting bespoke garments, transforming every hand-drawn sketch into a wearable reality. Each piece is developed with care — from the cut and fit, to the tiniest detail — ensuring that what you wear not only looks good but feels right too.

And on the marketing side, we focus on authentic storytelling — choosing to build a community over a customer base, and always putting values before volume. At Dahlia, every hand, every voice, and every decision is rooted in one simple idea: celebrating you, everyday.

Do you work with local artisans, karigars, or craft communities?

Yes, we do — working with local artisans and craft communities is at the heart of Dahlia's mission.

We collaborate directly with skilled weavers and karigars across India, sourcing handwoven and handcrafted textiles from regions like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal. These artisans bring generations of expertise to the loom, and we're deeply committed to preserving their craft by supporting them directly — cutting out middlemen to ensure fair compensation and sustained livelihoods.

Every fabric we use carries the imprint of these communities — their hands, their stories, their heritage. Through Dahlia, we aim to not only spotlight the richness of Indian handlooms but also create a more meaningful, human connection between the maker and the wearer.

Craftsmanship & Textiles

What kinds of textiles, weaving, dyeing, or embroidery techniques does your brand use?

At Dahlia, we work exclusively with handcrafted and handwoven textiles that reflect the depth and diversity of India's rich craft heritage.

Our current collection features:

Malkha from Andhra Pradesh – A beautiful, breathable cotton fabric that retains the natural texture and soul of the fibre. Malkha is known for its softness and strength, created without bleaching or chemical finishing.

Ikat from Telangana – A distinctive resist-dyeing technique where the yarns are tie-dyed before weaving, resulting in blurred, feathered patterns that hold a rustic charm and geometric precision.

Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh – A delicate, sheer textile woven with silk and cotton, known for its lightness, glossy transparency, and luxurious hand feel. Chanderi weaves often feature subtle motifs and add an elegant drape to everyday silhouettes.

We focus on using Azo Free/ natural dyes and prioritise handloom processes that are non-polluting, energy-efficient, and human-centred. Our fabrics are all 100% cotton or cotton-silk blends, sourced directly from artisan clusters to ensure authenticity and fair trade.

Each Dahlia piece is a quiet celebration of heritage and modernity — designed for women who value craftsmanship, comfort, and timeless style.

Is there a story behind the craft you work with (e.g. regional heritage, a specific method)?

Yes, there is a deep and meaningful story behind the crafts Dahlia works with — rooted in regional heritage, sustainable values, and a personal quest for authenticity.

Each textile we use — be it Malkha from Andhra Pradesh, Ikat from Telangana, or Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh — carries generations of tradition and cultural memory. These crafts are not just techniques; they are living legacies, passed down through families of weavers who have mastered their art over decades.

Malkha, for instance, was born out of a movement to decentralise textile production and give power back to handloom weavers. It's a fabric made without the chemical-heavy processes of modern mills, allowing the cotton to retain its natural resilience and beauty — a philosophy that perfectly mirrors Dahlia's belief in softness as strength.

Ikat has deep roots in Telangana and Odisha, where the method of resist-dyeing yarns before weaving creates a pattern with a unique, handcrafted blur — symbolising the fluid, imperfect beauty of life. It's a slow, meditative craft that reflects our design ethos of intentionality and depth.

Chanderi, a centuries-old weave from Madhya Pradesh, was once patronised by royalty. Known for its gossamer-light quality and delicate motifs, it speaks to the understated elegance Dahlia stands for — timeless, graceful, and quietly luxurious.

By working directly with artisan clusters, Dahlia not only preserves these regional heritages but also contributes to sustaining the livelihoods of weaver families. Every garment is not just stitched — it is woven with memory, made with meaning, and carries the story of many hands and hearts behind it.

Are the materials locally sourced or organic/natural?

Yes, Dahlia is deeply committed to using locally sourced, natural materials that are both sustainable and meaningful.

We work exclusively with 100% natural, handwoven fabrics like Malkha, Ikat, and Chanderi — sourced directly from artisan clusters across India. These textiles are made from Indian-grown cotton, often cultivated by smallholder farmers, and are spun, dyed, and woven using eco-friendly processes that honour both the planet and the people behind them.

Because these fabrics are created on manual handlooms without electricity, they have a low environmental footprint, produce zero industrial waste, and preserve the traditional craftsmanship that defines India's rich textile legacy.

For Dahlia, sourcing locally isn't just about geography — it's about creating a deeper connection to the land, the craft, and the community. Every fabric we use tells a story of sustainability, heritage, and conscious luxury — aligning with our belief in celebrating women, craft, and the everyday beauty of slowing down.

Values & Practices

How do sustainability, slow fashion, or ethical practices show up in your brand?

At Dahlia, sustainability and ethical practices aren't trends — they are part of our everyday intention. Our commitment to slow fashion is deeply rooted in how we design, source, and produce every piece.

Here's how it shows up:

Sustainable Fabrics
We work with handwoven, natural textiles like Malkha, Ikat, and Chanderi — all sourced directly from artisan communities across India. These fabrics are made from locally grown cotton, woven on manual looms, with minimal energy use and zero industrial waste.

Ethical Sourcing & Fair Trade
We build direct relationships with weavers, eliminating middlemen to ensure fair pay, consistent work, and the continuation of generational crafts. This empowers artisan families and supports rural economies.

Mindful Production
Each garment is made-to-order or in small batches, minimising overproduction and wastage. Our production team works closely with the founder to ensure that each piece is timeless, high quality, and long-lasting — designed to be worn and loved for years.

Celebrating You, Mindfully
Our approach to slow fashion ties back to our philosophy — "Celebrating You". We believe women deserve clothing that is not only beautiful, but thoughtful. Every Dahlia piece is created to support freedom, comfort, and confidence — without compromising on ethics or elegance.

In essence, Dahlia is about making conscious choices — for your wardrobe, for our artisans, and for the planet.

How do you approach production — made-to-order, small-batch, zero waste, etc.?

At Dahlia, our approach to production is rooted in intentionality, respect for craft, and mindful consumption.

We follow a made-to-order and small-batch model, which means we only produce what's needed — nothing more. This not only helps in minimising waste but also ensures that every garment is crafted with attention to detail and a personal touch.

Each piece is cut, sewn, and finished by hand in our workshop, using fabrics sourced directly from artisan clusters. Because we work with handwoven textiles, which are made in limited quantities, our collections are naturally exclusive and often seasonless — designed to last, not follow fleeting trends.

This slow fashion approach allows us to honour the time and labour of the weavers and karigars we collaborate with, while also offering our customers something truly special and sustainable.

In short, production at Dahlia isn't about speed or volume — it's about care, quality, and conscious creation.

Design & Aesthetic

How would you describe your design philosophy or signature style?

At Dahlia, our design philosophy is rooted in ease, elegance, and emotional connection.

We believe that clothing should celebrate the woman who wears it, not overshadow her. Our signature style is minimal yet meaningful — guided by clean silhouettes, functional details (like deep, thoughtfully placed pockets), and subtle accents that elevate without overwhelming.

Every design is crafted to feel lived-in yet luxurious, with natural, handwoven fabrics that move with the body and breathe with the skin. We embrace the beauty of imperfection — the slight slub of a handloom weave, the softness of undyed cotton, the understated charm of a single stitch detail.

Our garments are seasonless and timeless, made to outlast trends and accompany women through all rhythms of life — work, travel, leisure, celebration, and everything in between.

At its heart, Dahlia's design language is about quiet confidence. It's where softness meets strength, and where everyday wear becomes a daily act of self-celebration.

Who is the muse or ideal wearer of your designs?

The muse of Dahlia is the woman who moves through life with quiet strength and intention.

She is independent, self-aware, and deeply in tune with her own rhythm. She values authenticity over appearances and chooses clothing that reflects who she truly is — not what she's expected to be. She finds beauty in nuance, meaning in details, and freedom in garments that allow her to just be.

She might be a working professional, an artist, a mother, or all three — but what connects her to Dahlia is not a role, it's a mindset. She believes that the ordinary moments of life deserve to be beautiful, and that comfort and elegance can co-exist.

She doesn't follow trends — she follows her truth. And she dresses to celebrate herself, every single day.

She is not just our customer — she is our inspiration.

How do you blend tradition with contemporary fashion?

At Dahlia, blending tradition with contemporary fashion is at the heart of everything we do.

We start with traditional Indian handwoven textiles — like Malkha from Andhra Pradesh, Ikat from Telangana, and Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh — each rich in heritage, technique, and cultural relevance. These fabrics carry the soul of our craft traditions, woven by skilled artisans using age-old methods passed down through generations.

We then reimagine these timeless textiles through a modern lens — creating silhouettes that are minimal, versatile, and functional, designed to suit the rhythm of contemporary life. Think clean cuts, intelligent tailoring, and one of our signature details — deep, purposeful pockets — something that speaks to both practicality and freedom.

This delicate balance allows us to honour the past while speaking to the present, giving our customers the chance to wear a piece of heritage that feels completely their own — rooted in culture, yet fresh and relevant.

It's our way of saying: you can carry history on your skin, while still moving forward in your own unique way.

Your India

What does Made in India or Born in India mean to you personally?

Made in India or Born in India is far more than a label — it is a deep-rooted commitment, a quiet pride, and a personal promise.

It means honouring the generational wisdom of Indian artisans, the richness of our local textiles, and the diverse cultural narratives that are woven into every thread. It's about standing by craft forms that have shaped our identity, and ensuring they are not only preserved — but celebrated in a way that's relevant today.

It also means believing in the power of homegrown excellence. We don't need to look outward for validation — India is already a powerhouse of artistry, design, and sustainable innovation. Dahlia is proof of that.

To us, Made in India is both a tribute and a responsibility — to protect what is ours, to nurture our own, and to tell stories that are deeply personal, quietly luxurious, and unmistakably Indian — in spirit, soul, and style.

Are there specific regions, traditions, or experiences that influence your work?

Yes, absolutely. Dahlia's work is deeply influenced by specific personal experiences that have shaped the founder's creative journey and the brand's soul.

Our fabrics come from rich craft regions across India — from the elegant Chanderi weaves of Madhya Pradesh, to the bold geometric Ikat of Telangana, to the earthy softness of Malkha from Andhra Pradesh. Each textile we use carries with it a cultural legacy — techniques passed down through generations, stories embedded in every thread, and the quiet pride of artisans who craft by hand, not machines.

The founder's travels to weaving clusters — as a student and later as a curator — allowed her to see first-hand the beauty and hard work that goes into each piece. Her time in Varanasi, engaging with master weavers, was especially transformative — it ignited a deep emotional and ethical connection to craft that continues to guide the brand today.

Additionally, Dahlia's design philosophy is shaped by a very personal longing — a desire for clothing that feels intimate, soulful, and honest. This emotional foundation, rooted in Indian craftsmanship but expressed through modern silhouettes, gives Dahlia its unique voice.

So yes — Dahlia is built on the back of regional artistry, cultural tradition, and a journey of rediscovery — all brought together to celebrate women, just as they are.

Looking Ahead

What is your vision for the future of your brand?

The vision for Dahlia is to become a globally loved Indian brand that redefines everyday luxury by blending craft, comfort, and emotional connection — with a soul rooted in India and a voice that speaks to the world.

We want Dahlia to be more than just a label. We see it as a movement — one that honours the everyday woman, celebrates quiet individuality, and empowers people to show up fully as themselves.

In the years ahead, we envision:

Expanding our artisan collaborations, partnering with weaving communities across India to preserve and promote traditional crafts in thoughtful, contemporary ways.

Growing consciously with small-batch collections and slow fashion practices that deepen our impact, while staying true to our core aesthetic — soft, functional, timeless.

Foraying into menswear, applying the same philosophy of comfort, craft, and intentional design to create relaxed yet refined silhouettes for men who appreciate detail, heritage, and understated luxury.

Reaching a global audience that values soulful design and meaningful storytelling — where "Made in India" becomes a mark of pride, not just provenance.

Building a community-first brand, where people feel seen, celebrated, and connected — not for chasing trends, but for embracing who they truly are.

At its heart, Dahlia will always be about creating space — in wardrobes and in the world — for thoughtful, breathable, beautiful living. For clothing that carries culture. For design that celebrates you.
